CalFire C130 In Service!
8/26/24 CalFire’s first C130 Air Tanker is officially in service!
Stationed at McClellan (Sacramento) the C130 is a game changer in California’s wild fire fighting effort. With a range of 800 miles fully loaded and able to deliver 4000 gallons of water or retardant this is the largest state owned arial fire fighting asset.
In time seven of these aircraft will be put into service and will be stationed throughout the state. In awesome news… Chico Air Attack Base is slated to be the home for one of them!
Chico’s currently assigned aircraft, an S-2T, while very capable only carries 1200 gallons of retardant. Nearby Vina Helitac Base has a new FireHawk helicopter with 1000 gallon capacity.
Having an aircraft with 4000 gallons capacity stationed in Chico will be a game changer for local wildfires.
Once operational in Chico, you will be able to listen LIVE to both operational and tactical radio transmissions from this awesome new aircraft.
